Todd County Middle School Beta Club Students Place In State Convention

Eighteen Todd County Middle School Beta Club students, along with Club Sponsors Lisa Petrie and Evan Cantarelli, traveled to Lexington, Kentucky for the club’s state convention Sunday, Jan. 14.

The three-day convention featured competitions in several different areas, including testing, art, group talent, individual performances and trivia.

Petrie says Todd County brought home first place in Musicology — a new event for the convention — designed as a music trivia-themed quiz bowl. Todd’s trivia team consisted of Mayson Daniel, Fran Cantarelli, Amelia Mallory and Clark Byrd. Byrd also won third place in the performing arts category with a solo saxophone performance. Petrie adds Byrd gave a last-minute performance after someone else droped out and still was able to place in the top third statewide.

Petrie says she is planning on taking the students to the Beta Club National Convention in Savannah, Georgia later this year.

The high school state convention was recently postponed due to weather and will be rescheduled at a later date as a virtual competition with 55 Todd Central Beta Club students competing.
