As computer system upgrades begin to wrap up this week for Kentucky’s motor vehicle registration system, Todd County Clerk Cindy O’Bryan asks that community members practice patience when the system is fully restored.
O’Bryan told Your WEKT News Edge she remains optimistic about achieving a sense of normalcy by January 16th. However, she acknowledged that unforeseen issues at the state level could potentially alter the timeline.
As services are restored, O’Bryan added there will be one significant change for customers.
Even though her staff has been through a lot of training sessions concerning this new system, it will take some time to fully understand it.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is upgrading its 40-year-old AVIS system to the new KAVIS system. The upgrade aims to enhance operational efficiencies within the Department of Vehicle Regulation, the Division of Motor Vehicle Licensing, and County Clerks’ offices.
The migration to KAVIS began in 2015 and has already seen the implementation of six modules, including improvements to disabled placards and license plates. The new system will also allow for the availability of new specialty license plate designs that promote nonprofit organizations in the Commonwealth.
