City employees will soon see a pay raise after council members put their stamp of approval on an ordinance amending the city’s compensation plan and pay scale. The ordinance, passed by a unanimous vote, adjusts pay grades for some positions and increases all employee pay in the city’s effort to attract and retain an efficient and effective workforce. Additionally, the ordinance provides for an annual longevity award of $70 per year of service on the employee’s hire anniversary and employee bonuses not to exceed $100 per year.
At last month’s city council meeting, Mayor Green told the council that pay for city employees was a few dollars per hour shy of the local area average.
Mayor Green reports that work continues on improvements at the City-County Park and that he hopes the project will be completed by the spring. The improvements are part of a matching grant project that has been ongoing for several months.
The city’s inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is set for Saturday, November 25. In addition to the tree lighting at 6 p.m., Mayor Green says there will be many activities for everyone.
Elkton’s annual Christmas parade will be on Saturday, December 9, at 5:00 p.m.
