Todd County Superintendent Mark Thomas presented 6th grader Gage Driskill with the district’s Student of the Month award at the school board meeting Monday evening.
Todd County Middle School Principal Kimmy Davis told the crowd that Driskill models genuine kindness, befriends all he meets, and is a great student all around.
Thomas also presented the district’s Making a Difference award to high school history teacher Rick Martin.
Martin was praised for his high energy and positivity with staff and students.
Martin and his daughter coach the high school’s inaugural cross-country team and the track team.
Board members approved a $255,000 price tag for the purchase of 2 additional school buses to serve the district’s students. Additionally, the board approved a new counselor position for the Horizons Academy. Salary for the position will be funded by the state’s Department of Juvenile Justice and KECSAC monies. The onsite counselor will supplement the work of the academy teachers and the existing weekly AXIS program in addressing student issues as they arise.
In his report to the Board, Director of Pupil Personnel Kenneth Anderson had good news to share. He told the Board that the monthly average daily student attendance across the district is 94.03%.
Thomas said teachers and staff will continue to focus on improving student literacy and that he hopes to continue what he calls random acts of kindness in the schools and communities.
