Preservation Continues For Elkton’s Historic Courthouse

Efforts to preserve the Historic 1835 Todd County Courthouse continue to be underway in Elkton.

According to an article by Carolyn Wells, the rehabilitation project’s recent work includes exterior window painting, caulking, and repair under local contractor David Haley.

Several windows had been affected by wood rot, but they have since been repaired with a special caulking that will provide more durability. The beams, or “lintels”, above the Courthouse’s windows have been left unpainted at the moment to allow them to breathe.

Another contractor, Gary Cottrell, is involved in the preservation and construction of the exterior doors. Currently, the door on the building’s southern wall is almost complete.

The City of Elkton will host Hometown Harvest, a farm-to-table dinner event, on Friday, Sept. 22 to raise funds for the preservation of the courthouse.
