With February under way, officials with the Pennyrile Area Development District have launched a “Spread the Love” Campaign — an initiative rolling into Valentine’s Day, aimed at spreading kindness, generosity and support throughout the region.

For the effort, the organization is hosting a pet food drive to collect donations for homebound senior citizens who rely on pets for companionship.

Community members are encouraged to participate through random acts of kindness — from writing notes of support to donating essential pet supplies.

Running from February 3-12, dry and canned pet food, treats and other pet support necessities will guarantee that both seniors, and their furry companions, are properly nurtured.

The drop-off location: PADD at 300 Hammond Drive in Hopkinsville.

Jill Collins, director of Pennyrile’s Area Agency on Aging & Independent Living, said this campaign is about showing love in “meaningful ways,” and that pets are especially necessary for seniors who need love and comfort.
