In its first meeting of the new year Tuesday evening, the Guthrie City Council welcomed two new members, Andrea Milkowski and Zolle Rose. The two were elected in November to replace Pam Turner and Linda Smith.
The council voted unanimously to approve the 2nd reading of an ordinance that amends the city’s zoning code in response to the January 1st legislation allowing medical cannabis dispensaries in the state.
The amendments align with state law and ensure that the dispensaries cannot operate within 1,000 feet of schools or residential areas.
Guthrie is the first city in Todd County to amend its zoning ordinances after the state law took effect.
In other news, the council voted to purchase a combined 10.25 acres of land needed to construct the city’s new wastewater treatment plant for $130,000.
The council also voted to appoint Councilman Russ Longhurst to the Logan Todd Rural Water Commission, resident Pam Turner to the Board of Zoning Adjustments, and resident Mike Smith to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
