Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: Julie Hamlet

Julie Hughes Hamlet is a 1990 graduate of Todd County Central High School.

Life-long friendships are what she values most from Todd Central, as well as her love of learning from wonderful educators. She has many fond memories from high school, notably her prom, doing Rebel Review and taking agriculture and home economics classes.

Hamlet advises current students to try hard in every class because they never know where in life they may need those skills. Also, students may not always be the smartest person in the room, but they can always be the nicest.

To current educators, she says to take the time to learn the content area. She adds there are issues with teacher retention at the high school level, and Hamlet feels it’s because teachers do not give themselves enough time to learn about the material and the school. She says schools need to do better about mentoring their teachers because they have wonderful students who deserve quality educators.

After graduating, Hamlet attended Hopkinsville Community College and Austin Peay State University to receive a bachelor’s degree in education, then attended the University of the Cumberlands to earn her master’s in education.

Hamlet is originally from Hopkinsville, Kentucky and now lives in Trenton with her husband Henry Hamlet. Her two children are also Todd Central graduates – Kaitlin Hamlet Henderson, Class of 2018, and Adlea Hamlet, Class of 2022.
