Elkton Sewer Plant Project Underway

Nearly two years after receiving $260,000 in grant money from the Kentucky Cleaner Water Program, the city of Elkton is moving ahead with projects at its sewer plant.

In a special called meeting Thursday evening, Elkton Mayor Arthur Green told the council that the grant monies were earmarked for increasing floater rotation and replacing head gates at the sewer plants.

The project should be complete sometime next year.

The council also approved the first reading of an ordinance that annexes into the city and rezones to a B2 neighborhood commercial district, a 3.559-acre tract of land adjacent to Blount Rural Health Clinic on Highway 181 South Main Street.

The annexation and rezoning is the recommendation of the Elkton Planning Commission. Second reading of the ordinance will appear on the council’s Novmeber agenda.

Mayor Green told the council that the city recently received a Liability Grant from the KY League of Cities. The $3000 award will be used to reimburse the city for the purchase of the playground equipment at Elkton City Park.

City leaf pick-up begins October 22 and will continue until December 4.

Trick or Treating within the city limits is scheduled for October 31 from 5:30-7:30 PM.
