During a special meeting of the Todd County Board of Education on Tuesday evening, Gregory Russell was selected to serve in the vacant District 3 seat.

This came after Dr. Kelley Groves resigned last month after accepting a newly created Teacher Support Specialist position in the district.

Russell fills the remaining term and is an eligible write-in candidate for the District 3 seat, which will be on the November General Election ballot.

He announced his write-in candidacy on Facebook Tuesday night saying, he was “eager to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to our schools.”

He added that he is passionate about the future and dedicated to creating a “nurturing and inclusive environment for all students.”

In a release from the district, Russell said he would like to see the district implement mental health programs that include workshops, peer-support groups, and crisis intervention services.

He is a 1991 graduate of Todd County Central High School.
