Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: Michael Cartwright

Michael Duane Cartwright is a 1968 graduate of Todd County Central High School.

His friendships are what Cartwright most remembers from his time at Todd Central. He has fond memories with his friends, especially following Principal Bush to his Rotary Club meetings. Cartwright says the principal would always wave at them while they stopped to shoot pool and eat cheeseburgers.

Cartwright says the class of 1968 was only the second class to attend Todd Central for all four years. He adds it gave him and his classmates a chance to meet students from all over the county rather than one small area. Cartwright notes his high school years were during the start of the civil rights movement and the integration of schools – this taught everyone valuable lessons on how to live with each other in the world.

After graduating, Cartwright attended the University of Kentucky before transferring to Austin Peay State University, where he graduated with a degree in accounting. For the past 50 years, he has been an agency manager for Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance.

Cartwright advises current students not to take their time in high school for granted. He urges them to participate in everything they enjoy, because it will be over before they know it. To current educators, he says every good teacher he remembers kept order in their classroom, but still had the ability to joke, be a friend and make learning fun.

Cartwright is originally from Hopkinsville, Kentucky and now lives in Sedalia, Kentucky. He is married to Angelia Cartwright and has two children, Michael and Kevin.
