Todd County Superintendent Talks Back-To-School Safety

With students returning to school, the district has quite a few implements in place to ensure back-to-school safety for the county’s youth.

Superintendent Mark Thomas says anyone entering TCCHS must pass through two secure perimeter openings and weapons detectors before entering the school building.

He adds these systems are portable and can be moved around to different facilities as needed, but presently, the district is focusing on the high school.

Bullet-proof, protective film has also been installed on entry points and perimeter glass surfaces throughout every school in the district. Additionally, Thomas adds the district partners with local law enforcement and government officials to ensure students’ safety.

Because of these partnerships, coverage is available throughout the district and every campus now employs full time student resource officers.

Thomas shares this school year’s opening has been one of the smoothest in his 29 years of working in education and he feels the 2024-25 school year is definitely looking up. He adds he kicked off the beginning of the summer with a planning session involving all school and district administrators with the focus of “instruction, instruction, instruction.”

He is very excited about that aspect and has already been visiting classrooms and providing feedback to teachers about the great things they are seeing so far.
