Trigg County Farm Tour Highlights Family Farm Operations

Two family farming operations were celebrated during the 2024 Trigg County Farm tour that made stops at the Ladd Farm and Litchfield Farms in northern Trigg County.

The Ladd Farm stop featured remarks from Ricky Ladd and Donna Ethridge who run the row crop and livestock farm in the Hurricane Community of Trigg County. Ricky and Donna discussed their cattle operation, hay production, and row crops. Donna and Ricky also discussed the history of the farm and the seven generations of the family that have lived and worked on the farm.

The second stop was on the farm of Tommy and Gary Litchfield, who grow row crops and livestock. Marty Lewis and Arthur Dunn with the Natural Resources Conservation Service hosted the tour stop. Lewis and Dunn talked with Tommy and Gary Litchfield about the history of their farm operation, what they raise on the farm, and how they have transitioned some of their farm to a slower pace with the Conservation Reserve Program.

The final stop was hosted by Becky Marlowe who talked with Deanna and Devin Leitchfield about their farm operation on the Ladd family farm and some new ventures including a roadside market to sell sweet corn, flowers, mums, and other products.

The final stop included a discussion by Daniel Ingram with Ricky Ladd and Donna Ethridge about the equipment they use to work the farm and how that equipment fits their operation.

On hand for the Trigg County Farm Tour was Kentucky Farm Service Agency Director Dean Schmore, who noted he was pleased to visit with farmers and see agriculture.

Also on hand for the tour was 9th District State Representative Myron Dossett, who noted the importance of the tour and small farms in the region.
