Elkton will have a new City Clerk/Treasurer later this year.
Following approval from Elkton City Council Thursday night, Kayce Bright will move from Assistant City Clerk to the position as Laura Brock retires. Mayor Arthur Green presented the idea to council members.
All council members voted in favor of Bright – she will take over in the weeks before Brock’s August 30th retirement.
Brock has worked with the City of Elkton since May 1997 and was appointed to the position a year later. She is accepting the executive administrator position with Pennyrile Regional Energy Agency.
Bright began working with the city in November 2022, earning her Certification as Kentucky Municipal Clerk in July 2023. She and her husband Aaron live in Elkton with their two children, with baby number three expected in October.
In other news, the council approved the first reading of the 2024-25 city budget. The budget projects total revenues and expenditures of $5,650,960. Of this amount, $822,600 is allocated to the police department, $689,000 to the street department, and $145,000 to the fire department.
Additionally, the council approved the first reading of an ordinance that would raise the monthly service fee for the pickup and disposal of solid waste materials. Currently, the fee is $9.25 per container; however, this rate is set to increase by $2.
The council will approve second readings of both ordinances, in addition to the final approval of the 2023-24 budget – to balance it out, during a special called meeting on Monday morning, June 17, at 8:00, at city hall.
