The $28 million allocated by the Kentucky legislature will not be available until August but plans for a wastewater treatment plant expansion in Guthrie are moving forward.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, city council members voted to move ahead with securing a $345,000 loan from Elkton Bank and Trust for the rental of a temporary wastewater treatment plant.
According to City Engineer Mike McGee, the $345,000 allows for one year rental of the plant after which time, the city will likely need to seek another solution.
McGee says construction of a permanent structure is 3-5 years away.
Additionally, the council voted to approve a $2,500 a month bid to Donald “Quack” Osborne of Osborne Outdoors for the mowing and upkeep of the city cemetery. The one-year contract allows for automatic renewal unless acted upon by either party.
Upon the recommendation of the Pennyrile Area Development District, the council also adopted a limited English proficiency plan for the city.
According to City Clerk Alison Blumel, the plan keeps the city in legal compliance with Title XI of the federal government. The LEP plan will provide for translation services to residents needing assistance in doing business with the city or its employees.
