Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: Troy Shanklin

A 1983 graduate of TCCHS, Vincent Shanklin, known by friends as “Troy,” is now the manager at Haley’s Hardware in Elkton.

Prior to his working at Haley’s, Shanklin began working on a farm following high school and then worked at night at Flynn’s Enterprises in Elkton. Following several years there, Shanklin then worked 11 years at Ardco, leaving that position just prior to its closing. His next work experience led him to Logan Aluminum; that position led to over 20 years working there, retiring from Logan in 2019.

In thinking of his high school and elementary years, Shanklin shared he will always remember his years playing football and then basketball at TCCHS. One of his fondest memories is playing basketball and being a part of TCCHS’s team that went to the state basketball championship in the early 1980s. He also shared he will never forget the kindness shown to him as a student by Mrs. Janie Mallory, an elementary teacher he described as “tough but caring.” He added she even made a home visit, always invested in helping her students achieve their best.

Sharing advice with today’s students, Shanklin emphasized, “Always have a personal relationship with God.” He also stated the need for everyone to be true to his or her beliefs and be a person of integrity. To today’s educators, Shanklin stressed, “Go the extra mile to connect with all students.”

Shanklin and his wife Katina make their home in Elkton. He and his wife are the parents of Tresie, Travis, stepson Travis, and stepdaughter Shawna. They also have eight grandchildren.
