House Bill 1 passed by the Kentucky legislature this session will help fund a wastewater treatment facility for the City of Guthrie.
15th District State Representative Jason Petrie, who chairs the Kentucky House Appropriations and Revenue Committee, shared more about the funding during a visit with the Elkton Rotary Club last week.
Since taking office in 2017, Petrie has been working to make sure the state has money in savings that can be used to fund one-time projects, like the Guthrie facility. When arranging the budget this year, the state had a savings balance of well over $3 billion.
According to House Bill 1, $28 million will be distributed to the City of Guthrie for the project during the 2024-25 fiscal year budget, the funds come from the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority budget.
House Bill 1 was approved by both the House and the Senate on April 12, after Governor Andy Beshear vetoed two line items. Both were overridden.
