A disorderly conduct call led to the arrest of a Todd County man for possessing a weapon on school property in Hopkins County on Friday afternoon.

According to Madisonville Police, officers were sent to Browning Springs Middle School at 357 West Arch Street shortly after 3:30 Friday afternoon regarding two parents who had been arguing. Police said the caller stated that 44-year-old Tony Sewell, of Trenton, had gone to his vehicle and placed, what the caller believed to be a handgun in his waistband.

Police said when they made contact with Sewell, he admitted to having a gun in his waistband but claimed that he never drew the weapon and only retrieved it when a crowd began approaching him.

After reviewing the school’s surveillance footage, police noted that while two adults could be seen arguing, no crowd had gathered around Sewell. A witness, who had reportedly been arguing with Sewell, informed police that they saw him with his hand on the gun in his back waistband, but he never removed it.

Sewell was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
