In a significant move to bolster local healthcare services, Jennie Stuart Health has announced a definitive agreement to join Deaconess Health Kentucky.

Clay Ahart, spokesperson for Jennie Stuart, said this partnership promises to enhance the quality of care for the community while committing a substantial investment of at least $95 million in the hospital.

Under the terms of the agreement, Deaconess will fully fund Jennie Stuart’s transition to its electronic health records platform, expected to cost between $40 to $60 million, if undertaken independently. This transition aims to improve patient care by digitalizing medical histories and reducing potential errors.

The agreement includes several key commitments:

  •  Access to Epic technology for improved patient care.
  • Maintenance and expansion of current services, bringing more specialists to the community.
  • A $5 million contribution to the Jennie Stuart Health Foundation, supporting local programs like the Tree of Life and Operation Love.
  • Retention of all active employees with maintained salaries and benefits.
  • Continued influence of Jennie Stuart’s Board of Trustees over local operations.

Eric Lee, President and CEO of Jennie Stuart, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “This milestone will ensure Jennie Stuart can deliver even better healthcare for our communities for the next 100 years.” He emphasized the shared commitment to community-based healthcare and the brighter future ahead for Jennie Stuart.

Shawn McCoy, CEO of Deaconess, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the opportunity to empower Jennie Stuart’s caregivers and enhance patient care through increased capital investment and advanced technology.

Ahart added that following a thorough due diligence process, the transaction is expected to close by August 1, 2025, at which point Jennie Stuart will become an operating subsidiary of Deaconess.
