During a special called meeting Monday morning, Todd County magistrates approved the appointment of a new Emergency Management Director.
Fourth District Magistrate Boogie Oliver proposed the motion to hire Air Force Colonel Ashley Groves. Oliver told Your WEKT News Edge that Colonel Groves possessed all the qualities they were seeking following the retirement of Daniel Smith.
Oliver added that they were seeking someone who would exceed the job description, and he is eager to work with him.
Colonel Groves brings 28 years of experience with the Air Force to the position, including 20 years with the Kentucky Air National Guard.
Col. Groves said being in his current position, he’s dealt with numerous natural disasters.
Col. Groves will shift from his full-time role as a Kentucky guardsman to a part-time position, continuing to work one weekend a month.
He resides in Clifty with his wife, Tiffany, the director of the Todd County Chamber of Commerce, and their two children, Ava and Liam.
