Gov. Beshear Announces Severe Weather Awareness Week

During his Team Kentucky Update on Thursday, Governor Andy Beshear announced the signing of a Severe Weather Awareness Week proclamation, and provided an update on the recent rounds of storms.

Since assuming office, Gov. Beshear highlighted that the recent series of storms marked the 13th federally declared disaster. He also signed a proclamation to designate Severe Weather Awareness Week from Saturday, March 1, 2025, to March 7, 2025, emphasizing the importance for Kentuckians to stay informed and prepared for any challenges that may arise.

click to download audioHe encouraged all Kentuckians to take the time to review their emergency plans, and if they don’t have one, to create one. He said one way Kentuckians can get involved is by participating in the annual tornado drill next week.

click to download audioHe noted that four shelters are still active, down from 15. Additionally, he reported that 269 people are currently accomodated at six state parks, occupying 101 rooms. Gov. Beshear also said the state’s travel trailer program will be activated to provide necessary housing for some of the people who will need it.
