Power Outages Affect More Than 4,000 Pennyrile Electric Members

A late Saturday afternoon power outage that impacted South Hopkinsville and second outage that impacted east Hopkinsville left more than 3,700 Pennyrile Electric customers without power.

Pennyrile Vice President of Member Services Brent Gilkey says an outage that occurred shortly before 5:00 left 3,697 cooperative members in the dark in the Casky, Green Hills, and South Hopkinsville area. Gilkey says power was restored to all members near Hopkinsville shortly after 6:00 Saturday night. He says crews determined an issue at the Casky substation resulted in the outage. Gilkey says crews are still investigating to find the cause of the outage. The outage resulted in the Heritage Christian Academy girls basketball game being called at halftime. Also several traffic lights were not functioning and businesses on the south and east sides of Hopkinsville had to temporarily shut down operations due to the outage.

Gilkey says more than 500 members were also affected by a power outage in Muhlenberg County that resulted from a vehicle hitting a three-phase pole along Highway 70 east. Repairs to that pole were expected to take up to five hours.
