Along with warmer weather and the close of January, comes the toppling of gas prices in west central Kentucky.

That’s according to the AAA East Central Gas Price Report, which this week is noting it’s near $2.67 a gallon for most of the region — down five cents from the last seven days.

Oddly enough, gas prices a year ago were $2.72 a gallon — meaning there has been little net change over the past 12 months.

In the News Edge listening area:

+ It’s $2.79 in Trigg County
+ It’s $2.72 in Christian County
+ It’s $2.74 in Todd County
+ It’s $2.72 in Caldwell County
+ It’s $2.69 in Hopkins County
+ It’s $2.76 in Lyon County
+ It’s $2.66 in Marshall County
+ It’s $2.65 in Calloway County
+ It’s $2.78 in Muhlenberg County
+ It’s $2.75 in McLean County
+ It’s $2.69 in Webster County
+ It’s $2.69 in Crittenden County
+ And it’s $2.79 in Livingston County

In key parts of the state, it’s currently $2.64 in Bowling Green, $2.60 in Elizabethtown, $2.79 in Louisville, $2.60 in Owensboro and $2.70 in Paducah.

Kentuckians, specifically, are more than 2 ½ years removed from record gas prices — prices which required an executive order and state of emergency from the Office of Governor Andy Beshear. That 2022 summer, costs were north of $4.79 a gallon.

Remaining stable, the national average for a gallon of gas is $3.12, as easing oil costs and lower domestic gasoline demand help keep things in check. This week’s national average is nine cents more than a month ago, and two cents more than a year ago.

At the close of last Wednesday’s formal trading session, West Texas Intermediate fell 39 cents to settle at $75.44 a barrel, and at 411.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 6% below the five-year average for this time of year.
