Walt Meriwether, 74, of Lexington

The Cook-Webb Funeral Home is honored to have been called to serve the family of Mr. William “Walt” Walton Meriwether.

Mr. William “Walt” Meriwether, age 74 of Lexington, Kentucky and formerly of Guthrie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31st at his home.

Walt was born March 20, 1950 in Clarksville, Tennessee the son of the late Richard “Dick” E. Meriwether and Pauline “Polly” Keller Meriwether.

Walt was a loving family man, dedicated patriot, and passionate craftsman. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Kentucky National Guard where he completed two tours in Afghanistan. A man of great compassion, he was deeply committed to helping others, whether it was through his volunteer work with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve or his efforts preserving historic cemeteries. Walt loved spending time with his family, lending his skills to their house projects, helping neighbors and friends, and woodworking and crafts. His generous spirit and quick humor were the foundation of countless cherished memories.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, L. Michael Meriwether and John B. Meriwether.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Constance “Connie” Meriwether; his sister, Margaret Taylor (Scott); his children, Jennifer King (Morgan) and Christopher Meriwether (Mallary) and his adored grandchildren, Shelby King and Callen Meriwether.

Visitation with the Meriwether family will be on Saturday, January 11th from 11:30 until funeral service time at 1:00 in the Chapel of the Cook-Webb Funeral Home in Guthrie with Bro. Paul Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Meriville Family Cemetery in Guthrie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USO, Wounded Warrior Project, or WUKY.

Walt’s legacy of love, service, and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
