Officials with the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell community will honor the memory of the 248 Soldiers and eight crew members who tragically died in the December 12, 1985 crash of Arrow Air Flight 1285.
Colonel James Stultz, commander of the 2nd Mobile Brigade Combat Team, will preside over the 9:30 AM ceremony at Gander Memorial on Fort Campbell. The event will include a wreath-laying ceremony, remarks, and a moment of silence for the fallen.
A solemn event, the annual “Gander Memorial” Ceremony is dedicated to the preservation of those who died in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada.
The service members were returning from a six-month deployment in Sinai, Egypt, and to this day, it is still considered one of the deadliest peacetime military air disasters in world history.
Members of the media and the Fort Campbell community are invited to attend this solemn occasion, and a separate ceremony is scheduled for 12:12 PM at Gander Memorial Park in Hopkinsville.
