Elkton Mayor Arthur Green recognized several employees for their service to the city at Thursday evening’s city council meeting.
Police Officer Josh Corn was recognized for 10 years of service. Police Captain Jakob Smith, Police Officer John Webb, Police Chief Robert Toombs, Public Works employee Chris Brady, Firefighter Travis Greenfield, and Fire Chief James Calvery were each recognized for 5 years of service.
Mayor Green also recognized Captain Jakob Smith and Firefighter Justin Griffin for their lifesaving response to a 911 call on October 31. Smith and Griffin were the first on the scene and rendered lifesaving measures to a resident with a severe cut.
Green praised the employees for their fast thinking, swift professional action in the line of duty, and for going above and beyond the call of duty.
In other news, the council also approved a resolution for the city to apply for a 2024 Kentucky Community Development Block Grant. The city’s application for the same grant last year was not approved.
The city hopes to use monies from the grant to help with housing improvements and development.
The council also approved the second reading of an ordinance annexing a 3.559-acre tract of land adjacent to city limits on South Main Street into the city. The Blount Property will be rezoned to a B-2 neighborhood commercial district.
City leaf pick-up continues through December 4.
The city’s annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will be on Saturday, November 30th and the city’s Christmas parade will be on Saturday, December 14th.
