Nancy Camp, 85, of Elkton

Nancy Camp, age 85 of Elkton, died at Hearthstone Place in Elkton on the evening of July 30 2024 after a nine-month battle with cancer.

Born Nancy Carolyn Thomas in June 1939 to the late Shelby and Mildred (Isbell) Thomas, she was preceded in death by her 12 brothers and sisters as well as her husband Bobby Hall (Robert) Camp.

Nancy was born in Logan County Kentucky. Her family moved several times and finally settled in Todd County in the 1950s. She spent 47 years working at Elkton Bank and Trust serving the residents of Todd County. During that time, she served as secretary or treasurer of just about everything possible from the PTO to the Park Board. Rarely was there a time when a typewriter and/or adding machine didn’t grace our dining room.

Nancy spent 20 years on Elkton City Council. After retiring from the bank, she served as Mayor of Elkton for 8 years. She constantly worked to improve the city and the lives of its residents and loved every minute of it.

She was married to Bobby Hall Camp for 32 years until his death in 2005. He was the love of her life. They had such a wonderful and loving relationship. I only ever saw them at odds once, on July 4th over the construction of a building in our backyard. That tiff would subsequently become a funny memory through retellings over time.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Cindy Sidebottom, her granddaughter Grace Sidebottom, 2 sisters-in-law Lou Camp and Wanda Thomas, and countless nieces and nephews. She was a member of Green Ridge Baptist Church.

Anyone who knew her knew she was a force of nature. Kind and compassionate, she loved the people of Todd County to her core and was so proud to call it her home. It truly is the end of an era.

A public visitation will be held Friday, August 2, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton KY. A private graveside service will be held. While mom loved flowers, she always muttered that they were a waste. So, in lieu of flowers, we would love donations to the go-fund-me to raise money for Hearthstone Place in Elkton.
