Historic 1835 Courthouse’s South Door Completely Restored

Progress continues on Elkton’s Historic 1835 Courthouse as the south door is now completely restored.

Historic Todd County, Inc. recently announced the door’s restoration, celebrating being more clearly connected to Todd County’s ancestors.

The Courthouse’s renovations have now been ongoing for eight years with the priority for the last few months being the completion of the building’s main doors. The project aims to restore the building to its former glory, showcasing how it would have looked almost 200 years ago in 1835. Historic Todd County says features on the south door such as paint color and molding are authentic to the time period, thanks to science-based, evidence-backed restoration practices.

In the meantime, the organization is hoping restoration on the east and west doors will be completed in the next three to four months. If all goes well, the courthouse could see its main doors completely restored by the end of this year.
