JT Calvery was recently named the Elkton Fire Department’s newest Fire Chief.
His new role comes after the retirement of former Chief Derrell Waggoner, who served the Fire Department for 45 years and retired from his role May 31.
Calvery, a firefighter for the department since 2018, was sworn in by Mayor Arthur Green at the end of May and took over the position June 1 – since then, he completed his state audit and has been busy getting started in his new role.
In his first month, Calvery has already made hires to bring the fire department back to a full roster.
He adds he has also spoken with Green about the possibility of acquiring a new fire engine in the future, potentially within the next few years.
