Widespread damage is being reported across Todd County after the first round of severe weather Sunday morning.
Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith told Your WEKT News Edge the worst of the damage appears to be near Elkton and along the U.S. 68/Kentucky 80 corridor. He added there are many areas where trees and power lines are blocking roadways.
Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield said winds of at least 80 MPH tore through Elkton and surrounding areas.
As severe weather continues to threaten the county, Mansfield said he was aware of one shelter at Petrie Memorial Methodist Church in Elkton.
Kelvin DeBerry urged residents to stay home this afternoon.
As of 12:30 PM, around 55 percent of Pennyrile Electric’s members remained without power in Todd County. This system, which prompted numerous tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, was the first of three expected rounds of storms on Sunday.
All roads in the City of Elkton have reopened, according to Mayor Arthur Green.
