The Guthrie MS Walk will return next month.
Organizer Terri Tilghman-Douglas told Your WEKT News Edge she has been hosting events since at least 2010 and dealing with Multiple Sclerosis since 1999. Over the years, Douglas and the local community have raised north of $167,000, funds that have been used to continue MS research.
In the last 25 years, Tilghman-Douglas has dealt with a lot in terms of MS.
The annual event will occur on Sunday, June 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Longhurst Park. Tilghman-Douglas invites those dealing with MS and caregivers to come out, along with everyone in the community.
As of this week, the local effort with a $10,000 goal, has raised over 87 percent. Tilghman-Douglas hopes that one day people diagnosed can say, “I used to have a disease called Multiple Sclerosis”.
While monetary donations are being accepted through the event, Tilghman-Douglas added you can help by donating used soda cans. Aluminum cans are being collected at American Café, Guthrie Main Street, and Longhurst & Ladell’s. Last year, roughly $325 was raised just from the cans.
