Historic Todd County (HTC), Inc. met its monetary goal to accept matches made by two unnamed people during its Leap Year Lunch held Thursday.

HTC member Carolyn Wells told Your WEKT News Edge they raised approximately $7,500, which includes $3,500 in matching funds. The money will go toward the renovation project of the Historic 1835 Courthouse located in Elkton’s town square.

During a WEKT Community Broadcast powered by Novelis, Vice President Billy Bryant said they have accomplished much work over the last few years.

The idea of a museum inside the historic courthouse came from Bryant in 2016.

Todd County Historian and HTC member Gary Violette shared historical facts about the courthouse.

Violette added that while the person who designed the courthouse is not exactly known, there is a very cool feature inside the building.

The Historic 1835 Courthouse is the current home for the Todd County Welcome Center and the Todd County Chamber of Commerce. Lunch was provided Thursday by Pembroke’s Bar-B-Q Shack.
