Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: Maureen Bell

Maureen Elizabeth Bell is a 1982 graduate of Todd County Central High School.

She values most from her time at TCCHS her great teachers and friends and says she is grateful there was only one county school. Bell adds she got in some trouble but never failed and is the first in her family to attend all 12 years of school and graduate.

Bell remembers the community and guidance at TCCHS, as well as the ball games, dances, pizza, smoking lounges and Norma in the office. She will always treasure the memory of her senior trip where Mr. Douglas and the whole senior class sat in the balcony of the state capital building in Frankfort. She says the class was made and given a sealed honorary certificate. While she may have been ready to graduate at the time, Bell says she will be a Rebel forever.

Bell advises current students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them and to be brave. She says today’s students have journeys far more complicated than hers and she admires their courage. She adds they should be a friend and take the time to savor their high school years. Also, students should be attentive, kind and respectful to everyone, but most of all themselves. Bell says young people are the community’s light and they should go shine.

To current educators, Bell says they have a gift. She says they should strive to be a positive window, be creative, listen to their students, help where they can and be kind. Bell adds not to walk away, but pray God’s purpose.

Bell was born in Guthrie, Kentucky and now lives in Berea.
