Mullings… Historic Todd County, Inc. To Host “Leap Day Lunch” On February 29th

The location has been booked, and plans have been finalized for Historic Todd County, Inc. (HTC) to host a “Leap Day Lunch” at the Pop’s Building at 201 East Main Street on Thursday, February 29, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

This fundraising event will include a BBQ meal from Mindy Hargrove’s Bar-B-Q Shack. As true of other fundraisers HTC sponsors, the donations collected for the meal are to benefit the rehabilitation efforts for the Historic 1835 Courthouse. Meal items will include BBQ, side items, desserts, and a drink. Take outs will also be available.

Most who saw the Courthouse during the holiday season observed the work completed on the windows of the Courthouse last year as well as the installation of a custom new door on the south side of the Courthouse. Completed by David Haley, the exterior work on the windows included painting, necessary reglazing, and required repair of all the windows of the Courthouse. Late last year two non-working gas heaters on the second floor were also removed, and a gas pipe on the exterior of the building on the south side was also removed and capped. The two heaters, which were not in use for decades, required demolition so they could be more easily removed from the second floor. Also of interest is the exterior door on the south side of the Square is almost complete with the remaining work on that door expected to be finished soon. More work and cleanup on the Courthouse are also planned in upcoming months once the weather is much more cooperative.

As most are aware, HTC’s mission has been “to preserve Todd County’s unique heritage and historic sites.” Specific goals for the organization include “to preserve and restore, to educate and inform, and to commemorate and promote” the heritage of Todd County. Officers for the organization include Matt Bailey, president; Billy Bryant, vice-president; Laura Brock, treasurer; and CLW, secretary. Other members of the board include Jo Ann Holder, Charlotte Morrow, Randall Powell, Glenn Slack, and Gary Violette. Mrs. Charlotte Myers, Welcome Center Director, serves as an ex-officio member of HTC, and Jimmy Groves, former Todd County Circuit Clerk, has been designated a director emeritus, a position honoring Mr. Jimmy’s many years of public service.

HTC requests everyone helps “spread the word” about the fundraiser. We all know the success of an event centers on publicity, and we are hopeful our “Leap Year Lunch” will be a very popular community event. Facebook is being utilized to promote the event on Historic Todd County, Inc.’s page, and we ask you download, distribute, or print our flyer JPEG placed on Facebook and share it with as many people as possible. Obviously, our success depends upon your continued generosity, and we hope you will place Thursday, February 29, on your calendars. If you cannot attend the event and want to donate to HTC, checks made out to HTC can be sent to P.O. Box 101, Elkton, KY 42220. You may also donate via HTC’s website at https://historictoddcounty.com/join/.
