Todd County Central High School students were on hand Friday morning at the Todd County Fiscal Court meeting to watch the county government and local media in action. Judge Executive Todd Mansfield welcomed the students and encouraged all Todd County residents to come to a fiscal court meeting.
Before the meeting, the students toured the county courthouse and met elected officials.
A representative from the United States Small Business Administration topped the agenda at the meeting. Public Affairs Specialist Timothy Watson told magistrates that the SBA provides long-term, low-interest-rate loans to help businesses affected by the recent tornados in Kentucky and Tennessee.
These Economic Injury Disaster loans provide working capital to help small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture, and most private, non-profit organizations of all sizes meet their ordinary and necessary financial obligations that cannot be met as a direct result of the disaster.
These loans are intended to assist through the disaster recovery period. Application Filing Deadline for this program is September 13, 2024.

In other news, the Court approved a request by Todd County Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith for the county’s dispatch department to apply for a Kentucky Commercial Radio Services Board Grant. Monies from the grant will be used to purchase and update the county’s wireless 911 system and equipment.
The Court also approved its annual supplemental aid payments to local fire departments. The county provides a $4000 per year allotment to those fire departments located inside the county and $2000 per year to those located outside the county but who provide a primary service to the county.
In following suit with other local city governments, the Court voted unanimously for the county to enter into an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement with the Elkton, Trenton, and Guthrie City Councils.
The establishment of a joint city-county planning commission comes as a result of residential, business, and commercial growth in the county. Just as he advised the city governments, County Attorney Jeff Traughber told magistrates that the agreement is the next step in the creation of the commission whose immediate goal will be to prepare a comprehensive plan for the county.
Traughber also stated that any of the parties who elect to participate in the commission can withdraw their agreement at any time.
