Over the holiday break, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials fully opened U.S. 79 in Todd and Logan counties after finishing much-needed bridge replacements.
KYTC District 3 reported that the five-bridge project was completed, bringing significant improvements to the communities in the area. The reconstruction project represented an investment of over $18 million.
Work began in October 2022, and all five bridges were opened to full traffic some 14 months later. The new bridges replaced aging structures that were built in the 1930s. Compared to the old bridges, the new ones have at least double the size of travel lanes and upgraded shoulders of at least eight feet.
Governor Andy Beshear said the “improvement project was thoughtfully planned, well-designed, and will benefit our families in Logan and Todd Counties.” He added, “The rebuilt bridges meet modern design standards and will turn daily commutes into safer, more enjoyable rides.”
The construction contract for the work was awarded to Scotty’s Contracting & Stone, LLC.
