Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: Charles Leavell

Charles Darnell Leavell is a 1972 graduate of Todd County Central High School.

After graduating, he attended Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach, Virginia and earned a degree in business management. Throughout his life, Leavell has been a postal employee for 37 years, a U.S. Navy veteran and a pastor. He also founded Open Hands Christian Fellowship in Suffolk, Virginia.

Leavell says he values most from Todd Central the connections – not just with the Class of ’72 but with classes before and after as well.

He remembers sports teams, everyday class life and his senior prom. He adds it was a total shock to him when he won Mr. Senior.

Leavell advises current students to do their best every day and to pursue excellence for it will open doors for them.

To current educators, he says to be adaptable because the world is ever-changing and teachers can help students shape the world.

Leavell was born in Elkton and now lives in Suffolk. He has four children, Marlon, Nicholl, Matthew and Moriah.
