Todd County Middle School Cheer Squad Going To State

The Todd County Middle School Cheer Squad will be traveling to Corbin, Kentucky for two days to compete in the state-level cheer competition.

Assistant Coach Rebecca Glenn says the team will compete in the “small game-day” event against 15 other teams. She adds Todd Middle won second place during the regional competition in November and only lost first place by half a point.

Glenn says this marks the third time in school history that the team has advanced to the state level. First, in 2019, then again in 2021. In fact, for five of the cheerleaders, this will be their second time competing in a state competition.

The squad is made up of 15 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. Glenn says the girls work really hard throughout the season and practice two to three times a week, on top of tumble class once a week and ballgames two to three times a week as well.

She adds she and Coach Kasey Wilson are very proud of their talented team. This will be the squad’s third competition this season they also attended a UCA regional competition earlier this year. They were one place away from getting to nationals, but Glenn says it was a great experience for the team and they hope to try again next year.

The cheer squad will compete around noon on Saturday.
