Norman Cottrell, 88, of the Penchum Community

Mr. Norman R. Cottrell age 88 of the Penchum Community passed away on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Mr. Cottrell was born September 7, 1935, in Louisville, Kentucky son of the late Montie R. and Mable Clymer Cottrell. He was a member of the Guthrie Baptist Church, he retired from the United States Military where he served in the Kentucky Air National Guard, United States Airforce and the United States Army, he is also a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War, after retirement from the United States Military he was an over the road truck driver. He loved his family and community; horses were his passion; he was a breeder of American Quarter Horses and served as an AQHA Judge and was an avid hunter and gun collector Norman and his wife were the owners of the former Colonial Inn in Guthrie.

Mr. Cottrell was preceded in death by his wife Marjul Dwin Wright Cottrell and his first wife Anna Leslie Ware Cottrell. He is survived by one son Mark C. Cottrell of Leitchfield, Kentucky as well as three daughters Lea Rankin of Smithfield, Kentucky, Shiela Conde of Dunnellon, Florida and Shannon K. Cottrell of Louisville, Kentucky, one sister Darris Gayle Raizor of Louisville, Kentucky. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by very close friends Sam Coblentz and family as well as Kenneth Westerman and family. Mr. Cottrell was a resident of the Brigadier General Wendell H. Gilbert Tennessee State Veterans’ Home of Clarksville, Mr. Cottrell loved the staff and they loved him dearly. A special thanks to the dedicated staff of House Six.

The Cottrell family will be receiving friends at the Cook – Webb Funeral Home on Saturday, December 16th, 2023, from 11:00 until 1:00. Funeral service is scheduled to be conducted at 1:00 in the Chapel of the Cook – Webb Funeral Home, interment to follow at the Highland Cemetery.
