Todd Central’s Cheer Team To Compete In State Competition

The Todd County Central High School Cheer Competition Squad will be traveling to their state competition Friday, Dec. 8.

Coach Leslee Harrison says the competition squad is made up of 14 students, including four eighth graders from Todd County Middle School who compete with the team.

The squad will be competing against 21 other teams in an event called “small game day” – a three-minute “college-style” routine where cheerleaders incorporate flags, signs and crowd participation.

The team had to compete against around 14 teams in their regional competition in order to make it to the state level. Todd Central came in fourth place and will join the other top three teams in Winchester, Kentucky on Friday for the state championship.

The last time Todd Central’s cheer team made it to state was in 2017, where they came in 15th place. Harrison says she would love to place in the top 10, but is hoping the team will win.

She adds most of the girls have been cheering together since sixth grade, and it’s exciting that they have been together for this long and made it this far. Harrison says she is very proud of each cheerleader for all the hard work they have put in.

11 cheerleaders from Todd Central’s cheer team will also be marching in the 62nd Governor’s Inaugural Parade Tuesday, Dec. 12.
