After dedicating more than two years to the affordable housing community in Guthrie, the executive director of the Housing Authority of Todd County is stepping down.

Bruce Smiley has served as the director since July 2021 and has seen significant progress on the property.

According to Smiley, the day-to-day operations of the property are the most challenging aspect of the job.
In 2024, he aspires to secure a part-time job, and by 2025, he envisions embarking on a journey with his wife in their fifth-wheel trailer, in pursuit of sunnier climates.

Among his duties with the Housing Authority of Todd County, Smiley has also been very active with the Hoptown Hoppers baseball organization. He plans to continue working with the team and serving on its board.

The search is underway for his replacement. During Monday afternoon’s meeting, the housing authority’s board created a two-person committee to sift through applications submitted over the last month. A replacement could be selected next month. The board is awaiting a replacement for its fifth seat before a decision is made.

Todd County Fiscal Court members are expected to approve the fifth member of the housing authority board during its Friday, December 8th meeting.

Smiley’s last day on the job is Sunday, December 31. The housing authority property is located on Pennyrile Court in Guthrie.
