The holiday season is drawing near and the City of Elkton is preparing for a fun-filled day Saturday, Dec. 9.
A brand-new event, the Todd County Toy Run, will take place in the afternoon. The event, sponsored by the Elkton Police Department, will have community members drive over 30 miles in their various makes, models and years of vehicles to bring toys to the MIlliken Memorial Community House. All toys will be distributed throughout the county by the school district’s Family Resources and Youth Services Center.
The 2023 Elkton Christmas parade will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday. The parade route will take floats from Todd County Central High School to the Public Square and down West Main Street. The route has three end locations: left on Streets Avenue, right at the Milliken Center or straight towards Todd County Middle School.
This year’s Grand Marshals are well-known names in Elkton. The 2023 Gold Standard of Optimal Aging Awardees Barbara Jordan, Frank McReynolds, Janette Sharp and Jacob “Jack” Weber will lead the parade.
After the parade, Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the Welcome Center on Elkton’s square. Children and families who visit Santa will receive a free digital picture with him and a goodie bag, sponsored by BR Knuckles Insurance.
Traffic will be blocked off from the square starting around 4 p.m. and remaining closed until the events come to an end.
For more information about any of the events Saturday, Dec. 9, visit the City of Elkton’s website or contact the Welcome Center.
