Michael Duane Cartwright is a 1968 graduate of Todd County Central High School.
After graduating, Cartwright attended the University of Kentucky before transferring to Austin Peay State University, where he graduated with a degree in accounting. He is currently in his 50th year as an agency manager for Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance.
Cartwright says the class of 1968 was only the second class to attend Todd Central for all four years. He says it gave him and his classmates a chance to meet students from all over the country rather than one small area. Cartwright adds his high school years were during the start of the civil rights movement and integration of schools – this taught everyone valuable lessons on how to live with each other in this world.
His friendships are what Cartwright remembers the most about Todd Central. He has fond memories with his friends, including following Principal Bush to his Rotary Club meeting. He says the principal would always wave at them while they stopped to shoot pool and eat cheeseburgers.
To current students, Cartwright says to enjoy the experience and participate in everything you enjoy, because it’s over before you know it. To current educators, he says that every good teacher he remembers kept order in their class, but still had the ability to joke, be a friend and make learning fun.
Cartwright is originally from Hopkinsville and now lives in Sedalia, Kentucky. He is married to Angelia Cartwright and has two children, Michael and Kevin Cartwright.
