Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: John Haley

John Steven Haley is a 1977 graduate of Todd County Central High School.

After graduating, Haley earned a bachelor’s in history from Austin Peay State University in 1983, as well as endorsements in economics and geography and a secondary teaching certificate. He has spent his entire career in the retail grocery business.

As for Todd Central, the things Haley values most are the lifelong relationships he developed there that he has continued to foster his whole life. He says he also remembers the total dedication that the educators had to help their students succeed. Haley says Todd Central’s teachers never stopped trying to make him and his classmates the best people they could be.

A special memory for Haley is his graduation night. He says he remembers thinking how quickly his high school years flew by and how he wished he could have pumped the proverbial brakes on life to slow it down a little.

To current students, Haley advises to enjoy every day and learn a new skill each day – time passes quickly and it is extremely important to develop a firm learning foundation. To current educators, he says to be patient with students, because some are late bloomers.

Haley lives in Springfield, Tennessee with his wife, Elaine Cook Haley. They have two children, Timothy and Sarah Haley.
