The four Todd County Optimal Aging Awardees were recognized at the Todd County Senior Citizens Center Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Barbara Jordan, Frank McReynolds, Janette Sharp and Jack Weber received the Gold Standard of Optimal Aging Award in September at a ceremony in Louisville.
The award, sponsored by the University of Louisville Trager Institute, celebrates “older adults, aged 85 years and over, who lead engaged and flourishing lives and inspire those around them with their zest for life.”
Janette Sharp said she is so thankful and grateful for having been nominates and chosen for the award.
Jack Weber also expressed thanks.
For McReynolds, his journey to win the award began in 2014 when he ran for City Council.
Jordan shared two quotes that are special to her.
Elkton Mayor Arthur Green said it was an honor to see the four recognized, but an even bigger honor to see them recognized locally.
Senior Center Director Charlotte Lyons organized a party and gifts for the honorees including sparkly picture frames for their awards, Chamber of Commerce gift certificates and a goody bag.
Jill Collins, Director of Pennyrile Agency on Aging and Independent Living, presented certificates of distinguished honor to all awardees.
The four were also honored at an Elkton Rotary Club meeting earlier this month.
