Mullings – Hometown Harvest, Unique Fundraising Event Planned for Friday, September 22, 2023

Hometown Harvest, a farm-to-table dinner planned for Friday evening, September 22, will find attendees enjoying a very unique dining and entertaining experience on the Square in Elkton. This unique event is described as a farm-to-fork dinner that “celebrates the bounty of the land and the bond between local farmers and our small businesses.” Its goal is to provide “a memorable fusion of nature’s beauty, classic jazz entertainment, good food, and celebration of the preservation of history through the Historic 1835 Todd County Courthouse.”

Tickets for the event are $50.00 per person with a reserved table of eight available for $500.00. Tickets can be purchased online at www.elktonky.com/hometownharvest. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM with appetizers served in the Courthouse. The dinner, which takes place on the Square, is planned to begin at 7:00 PM. The evening’s meal catered by Billy Goat Hill, Boley’s Catering, and L & R Soda Bar will include appetizers, a salad, dinner with two meats, and a dessert. Alcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase. Todd County Central High School BETA students will serve the meal and the Cumberland Winds Jazz Trio will provide music for this outdoor event.

Ms. Cloie Rager, the event organizer for the City of Elkton, shared, “Historic Todd County, Inc. and the City of Elkton are excited to bring a new and exciting event to benefit the Historic 1835 Todd County Courthouse while celebrating local flavors, gathering with friends, and enjoying an evening under the stars.” Plans are for a short program to be presented by Historic Todd County, Inc. Currently several items including two UK basketball tickets, a $250.00 gift basket of Todd County items from “Something Special,” a 30 by 40-inch original canvas print of the Courthouse by Chad Fuller, two rounds of golf at Lake Barkley, a small, framed print of the Trenton school, and a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle will also be auctioned.

“Supporting the Hometown Harvest, a farm-to-fork dinner, in the county seat while also supporting the Historic Courthouse is definitely the must buy ticket of the year in Todd County,” stated Elkton Mayor Arthur Green in a recent press release. He continued, “This dinner reflects the best of our farmers and their work and supports the historic traditions of our community. As Mayor of Elkton, I am excited about this opportunity for food and fellowship on the Square in Elkton.”

Recent efforts for the rehabilitation project have included exterior window painting, caulking, and repair under the direction of David Haley, a local contractor with experience in historic preservation. Observers will note the lintels above the Courthouse’s windows have been left unpainted to allow them to breathe properly. Wood rot affecting several of the windows has also been repaired with a special oakum caulking used to provide more durability to the window project. Gary Cottrell, another local contractor with expertise in preservation, is handling the construction of new exterior doors that will be made of African mahogany, a very durable wood used for construction. Presently the door on the south side of the building is nearing completion.
