One in eight adults and one in six children suffer from food insecurity in Todd County and Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland is working hard to help support those individuals.
Executive Director Jamie Sizemore tells Your WEKT News Edge that September is ‘Hunger Action Month’ and they are looking to raise $125,000 to provide over 1 million meals across their service area.
Another way to take action this month is by stepping up to support their partner agencies. In Todd County, those include the Todd County Interfaith Public Pantry, the Todd County Senior Citizens Center, and Petrie Memorial Methodist Church.
Sizemore added they are working to expand their Farms to Food Bank program.
Sizemore said during the upcoming Kentucky Legislative Session they are asking to double the budget to $1.2 million per year.
During the recent fiscal year – Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland provided over 128,000 meals in Todd County.
