Governor Andy Beshear announced a $386 million investment to expand access to internet in 46 counties, including Todd County, bringing it to more than 42,600 homes and businesses for the first time.
Todd County will receive nearly $2.37 million from the Commonwealth. The funding, awarded to Pennyrile Rural Electric Cooperative, will be matched by the organization.
Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield said this investment will help the process of ensuring the entire county receives service.
Alan Gates, CEO of Pennyrile Electric, said the state’s support has allowed them to install internet services across their nine-county service area.
Governor Beshear said, in total, $196 million will be handed out by the state of Kentucky for these projects.
In Todd County, the state said there are 634 homes or businesses that have no service or a very slow internet connection, that will be impacted by this investment.
